Joe Nielander, award-winning Master Glass Artist with 28 years experience, recently launched a new body of artwork in mixed media. Nielander has always had a passion for water sports and the ocean. He likes to surf, sail, and dive, and this body of artwork reflects those activities and allows him to explore them in a unique combination of mixed media artwork.
Each piece of art is created using a complex combination of hand forged and hammered steel. Glass is hand cut and slumped into the steel frame. The back side of the glass is sandblasted and painted with acrylics through an airbrush using an Asian reverse painting technique. Designs are dynamic, customizable, sizable, and scalable, emulating the natural environments he so enjoys.
Showcasing this extraordinary body of artwork, Joe Nielander teamed up with partner and Business Manager, Amy Weiss, to form Glassy Creek Studios LLC.
